Our Mission
At U Teach We Aide (UTWA) we are committed to cultivating and retaining the next generation of skilled, equity-focused education leaders.
What do we do?
We provide direct and indirect support services, and programming for those committed to serving students with diverse learning needs in underrepresented, Title I schools.
How do we do it?
One of the ways we achieve our mission is by establishing a paid Teacher's Assistant Apprenticeship program for Black and Brown 12th-grade students in Title I public schools. This program provides them with a pathway into Special Education careers. Once they graduate high school, these students can work as paraprofessionals alongside educators who serve students with special needs in low-income communities for at least one year.
Additionally, through strategic partnerships with educational institutions, UTWA is committed to providing ongoing professional development, coaching, and mentorship for up to four years. At UTWA, we strongly believe in the African Proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child," the key to strengthening the village is to reach within."
